Whatever your interests, Aberdyfi and the surrounding area offers a wide range of activities for you to enjoy during your stay. Take in the breathtaking coastal views and watersports, explore the spectacular hills, experience Welsh history or simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is lots to do for couples, families or friends - we have listed some of the favourites below.
ABERDOVEY


Beach - 4 miles of expansive golden sand stretches around the corner to Tywyn. Dogs are permitted except in the Summer months on the first stretch in front of town.
Golf, Tennis & Football - Aberdovey Golf Club offers a renowned championship links course. There are 2 tennis courts, a bowling green, putting course and small football pitch near Aberdovey railway station. The football pitch is a free community facility
Watersports - The Dyfi estuary is a haven for watersports. Sailing, SUP and body board are very popular.
TYWYN & BARMOUTH


Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Railway - Wonderful steam train with route inland into Snowdonia.
Magic Lantern Cinema - One of the best restored cinemas in the UK, the Magic Lantern Cinema shows a wide variety of films from latest releases to live theatre streams and live music nights. It also has a licensed bar and secret garden. Check what's on at www.tywyncinema.co.uk. Tywyn is only 10 minutes drive from the lodge
Barmouth is southern Snowdonia's most popular seaside resort. It can be reached by road via an estuary inland bridge or a very popular route is to park at Morfa Mawddach station and walk across the wooden viaduct. The town boasts independent shops and cafes, award-winning fish and chips and traditional amusements as well as an incredible beach.
MACHYNLLETH & DOLGELLAU


Machynlleth - is a historic market town acting as great base for the Ynys Hir nature reserve, Centre for Alternative Technology and even has its own MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). The produce market is held every Wednesday in the centre. Approximately 20 minutes
The Mach Loop is a set of valleys, situated between Dolgellau in the north, and Machynlleth in the south (and from which the Loop gets its name), which are regularly used for low level flight training of fighter jets
Corris Craft Centre for local crafts. Also home to attraction King Arthur's Labryinth, an interactive voyage through ancient Welsh legends.
ABERYSTWYTH


Aberystwyth - This Georgian seaside town is the largest town within the local area. It is a thriving local community including historical sights, shops, restaurants and events for its local community and University residents. With a traditional pier, seafront and beach, there is lots to do. Approximately 40 minutes drive
Osprey Project - Between the lodge and Aberystwyth, a unique wild bird attraction, the Dyfi Osprey Project can be found on the opposite side of the estuary. The project is home to several resident Ospreys and during Spring each year the return to hatch new fledglings.
Ynys Las & Borth - Directly opposite Aberdovey, you will see the beach at Borth and the sand dunes of Ynys Las Nature Reserve. The area is great for beach walking and at low tide an incredible prehistoric petrified forest can be viewed

ERYRI / SNOWDONIA

National Park - The Lodge is located at the southern tip of Eryri/Snowdonia National Park so offers numerous stunning walks. Panorama Walk is a quick circular route behind the lodge. The Dolgoch Falls near Tywyn offers a series of three terrific waterfalls. The infamous peak of Cadair Idris is the pinnacle, but other favourite walks include the local Bearded Lake and the Precipice Walk near Dolgellau. PLACES TO EAT & DRINK
There is a variety of great places to eat and drink in Aberdovey and around. Always check opening hours, and many require reservations in the Summer months. The selection below contains just a few we know personally.
